Niwot Elementary WATCH D.O.G.S.!!
Please plan to join us Thursday, August 27 at 6pm for our WATCH D.O.G.S. kickoff pizza party for dads and kids!
What is WATCH D.O.G.S.?
WATCH D.O.G.S. is an innovative program focusing on education and safety in schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures in order to:
1.Provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2.Provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Who are WATCH D.O.G.S.?
Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who spend at least one day during the school year at Niwot Elementary volunteering.
What do WATCH D.O.G.S. do?
During the day, WATCH D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students but other students as well.
On the day of their participation, WATCH D.O.G.S. are given a brief overview of their involvement and they wear an official t-shirt and nametag identifying them as WATCH D.O.G.S.
What are the benefits of the WATCH D.O.G.S program?
•Students gain positive male role models and schools gain an extra set of eyes and ears.
•Father-figures get a glimpse of their students’ everyday world and learn about the increasingly complex challenges and decisions today’s youth are facing. As a result, they can learn to relate better to their student and hopefully connect with them.
•Father-figures gain a greater awareness of the positive impact they can have on their students’ life in three critical areas, academic performance, self-esteem and social behavior
